    Yesterday, at 8.42 p.m. it was happening again: after 13 anxious days in the workshop, Mr Kinderu Gharama Saidi, city counselor of Iringa sent us on the last part of our Touareg CapetoCape adventure. Besides the official time keeping, we signed the Golden Book of Iringa, which was especially taken from the town hall at late hours.

     

    After filling our 3 tanks, we crossed the border to Zambia in the night. Grace to an employee of Kühne+Nagel, passport and customs control went by fast. Road and weather conditions in Zambia were on our side, as many Chinese road building companies work on paving the main routes. Despite some overturned trucks we could go quite fast and crossed the country between the many national parks, until we reached Lusaka.

     

    We missed the border of the Republic of the Congo by only some hundred meters and got to our next fuel stop in Lusaka at 1 p.m. We are so happy, that we have completed the first 2000 km in the rebuilt Touareg without any problems. Refueling, cleaning the windows, a little bit of oil - just as nothing had happened.

     

    Of course all of us are a little disappointed that our world record drive more or less became a Touareg Africa Challenge now - but the excitement in the cockpit is still there, especially because all of our sponsors, partners and fans kept the project alive. Our helping hands and we, the team, did everything we were able to do. We want to thank you for the trust in us. Our final goal, Cape Agulhas, is only one and a half days away now.

     

    In the late afternoon, we approached the Zambezi river, on the border to Zimbabwe, and are just done with all border proceedings. Now we have only few hours of daylight left in the Mana Pools national park and are then approaching Louis Trichardt in the night, the first bigger city in South Africa. We are now back in the same timezone as Germany, by the way. Only the difference in temperature should still be great - currently we´ve got 38°C and the air is stuffy...
